Can you Solve the Murder at the Mowbray?

25 November 2008

Visitors to Eastbourne should dig out their magnifying glasses and notepads ready to solve ‘Who done it' as the resort's Mowbray guest accommodation prepares to host all new Murder Mystery weekends in the New Year.

Using experienced amateur and semi-professional actors from the local community to pose as potential suspects, the 4-star guest accommodation is inviting guests to book now for the chance to solve clues in their new themed weekends.

Brand new for 2009, guests will be able to escape the winter blues and enjoy a weekend with a difference as they get into character to listen to the reading of the Duke of Mowbray's Will and prepare to solve his murder.

Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Cllr Steve Wallis said "The brand new Murder Mystery weekends are a fantastic idea and I'm sure there'll be plenty of people booking up to take part. With Eastbourne offering a real variety of accommodation and inspiration for all sorts of different themed breaks, there's certainly lots going on to keep visitors entertained this winter."

The Mowbray's Murder Mystery weekends are the first of their kind for Eastbourne with the hotel arranging the mystery themselves from start to finish, and even drafting in budding local actors to set the scene.

Writing the scripts and setting up clues themselves, the owners of the Mowbray Laura and Darren Weir who are also Criminal Barristers, are putting together a Murder Mystery weekend set in the present day. Telling the story of the Duke of Mowbray who dies suddenly without an heir, a dinner party at The Mowbray will decipher whether the Duke died by natural causes or more sinister means.

Set in the heart of Eastbourne's cultural quarter amongst the town's theatres, the Mowbray looks to be taking inspiration from the stage to host the series of special ‘Murder at the Mowbray' weekends that begin on 30 January 2009.

With Eastbourne boasting a wide range of accommodation to suit any visitor; opt for an indulgent stay at the resort's 5-star Grand Hotel, go for designer décor on a budget at John Malkovich-backed The Big Sleep Hotel, or plan your fitness regime at the Guesthouse East.
