Fans Urged to Support Summer of International Grass Court Tennis
14 April 2008
Tickets to the International Women's Open available now and selling fast
The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) is urging tennis fans from across the South East to book their seats at the International Women's Open - one of the UK's most prestigious international grass court tournaments taking place this summer.
Tickets for the event, which is being hosted at the idyllic setting of Devonshire Park in Eastbourne, are expected to be in high demand with sales already promising to hit record levels following the announcement of a combined men's and women's event for 2009.
And this year, to make the tournament even more accessible, Eastbourne will feature a Twilight Tennis session - guaranteeing that a number of matches in the latter stages of the tournament will begin after 6pm, therefore encouraging fans to attend after work.
Taking place from 14th June until 21st June, the tournament, which has boasted past winners such as Martina Navratilova and current number one Justine Henin, is accompanied by two other international tournaments - The DFS Classic at Edgbaston Priory Club and The Nottingham Open at the City of Nottingham Tennis Centre. Ticket information for all three events can be found at www.lta.org.uk
Roger Draper, Chief Executive of the LTA, commented: "This summer promises to provide a fantastic spectacle of grass court tennis as we continue to showcase and nurture the next generation of British tennis stars coming through the ranks.
"Tickets for the International Women's Open are already selling faster than in previous years and we are urging both new and existing tennis fans to secure their seats early to avoid disappointment.
"What's more, following our announcement of a combined men's and women's event for 2009, we're expecting heightened interest for this year's event from sports fans and anyone interested in live events across the region."
The tournaments give sports fans multiple opportunities to watch live, professional tennis throughout the summer and to catch a glimpse of Britain's most promising talent in action against some of the world's finest stars.
Gavin Fletcher, International Women's Open tournament director, added: "Tennis is a fast and exciting sport to watch live and this summer's tournaments are the perfect platform for sports fans to experience our fantastic facilities and glimpse Britain's most promising talent in action against some of the world's finest stars."
